Ain't it the truth!  This is a corollary of Murphy's law!    So stay cool    during the exam and always stick with your first answer!

The only exception is the small percentage of students, and you know who you are,  whose first answer is always wrong  - then go for the other one!!!!

Over the years i have learned to commit to an answer and then pick the other one. I coined the term coin flip syndrome

Exactly. I tried to always change my first answers and in 80% of times I failed them. So I'm sticking with my first chosen answers.

when in doubt with a 50-50, pick always the first one, easiest way to make sure a true 50% with a p < 0.0001 (besides, it has a couple extra perks, you save precious time and minimize stress by leaving things in the hands of the gods of randomness)

When i reach to 50-50 .. i go with my educated guess and my gut feeling .. and it is right most of the time .. unless i don't know what the hell is the question talking about then i go with C for no reason
